The St Margaret's Professional Women's Network is a quarterly breakfast function for community members to share, support and be inspired. Our guest speaker for the second event of 2017 is Catherine O'Sullivan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Pathways and Partnerships at Bond University.

Growing up in the Granite Belt town of Stanthorpe as the youngest of six,  Catherine was the first in her family to finish Year 12 and gain a university education. Catherine contributed over 20 years as an educator in the classroom. She went on to become the first female Principal of Goondiwindi High School. Driven by the belief that rural issues are only as strong as their advocates, she received an Australian Rural Leadership Scholarship and the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship.

Catherine joined Bond University in 2013 as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Pathways and Partnerships, with Indigenous education and women’s education identified as two cornerstones of this new portfolio.

Prior to joining Bond, Catherine served as Executive Director of Schools for the Toowoomba region, Assistant Director General at the State’s Department of Primary Industries, and Queensland State Manager of the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. Catherine has implemented initiatives such as the annual Yarning Up Tour, which sees a group of school principals and high profile business people visiting remote Indigenous communities. The highly successful ‘Learn Earn Legend’ Indigenous retention program, and the ‘Closing the Gap’ Indigenous initiative have gained honourable recognition and awards.

Catherine has built her career on developing, implementing and championing innovative education strategies with a dedication to improving Indigenous education outcomes.
